Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, M.D., is a consultant and serves as chair of the Department of Neurologic Surgery at Mayo Clinic's campus in Florida, and he is recognized with the distinction of a named professorship, the William J. and Charles H. Mayo Professorship. His clinical focus includes:
Surgical treatment of primary and metastatic brain tumors with emphasis in motor and speech mapping during surgery
Surgical management of Intramedullary Spinal Cord Tumors/lesions with Spine Mapping
Pituitary tumors and skull base tumors using transsphenoidal endonasal and minimally invasive approaches
Providing personalized medicine to improve patient outcomes
In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Quinones-Hinojosa leads NIH-funded research to find a cure for brain cancer. His cutting-edge research focuses on brain tumors and cell migration, health care disparities and clinical outcomes for neurosurgical patients in which the operating room is used as an extension for his research scenario. He has authored numerous high-impact scientific journal articles, chapters, abstracts and books.
Dr. Quinones-Hinojosa also continues to provide mentorship to residents, graduate students and fellows.

Dr. Fleseriu has a long-standing clinical and research interest in the pathophysiology and treatment of pituitary and adrenal disorders. She has received many national and international awards, including title of “Doctor Honors Causa” by the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” and the Clinical Endocrinology Trust Award from the U.K Society of Endocrinology. Mr Marcel Ivanov MD, PhD, MSc, FRCS is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spinal Surgeon whose main NHS practice is based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. He is Spinal Lead at the Department of Neurosurgery and Audit Lead for Neurosciences.
He is Director of AO SPINE Centre Sheffield. In 2017-2019 he served as AO SPINE UK Council Officer (Neurosurgery) and between 2019-2023 he was Chair of the AO SPINE UK & Ireland. In addition to clinical work he is a Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Sheffield University and actively involved in several research projects.
He qualified as a medical doctor in 1999 and as a Neurosurgeon in 2007 with his comprehensive neurosurgical training received in Romania and post CCT Fellowship training in the UK. He was awarded Neurosurgery International Fellowship training at the UIHC, Iowa, USA 2004, and received AOSPINE-EANS Spinal Fellowship training in Leeds, UK (2008) and Neurooncology Fellowship training at the Walton Centre, Liverpool, UK 2009.
During his training he visited several European neurosurgical units as part of the EU "Leonardo da Vinci" training programme (Freiburg, Greifswald, Munich, Brussels, Helsinki etc). He developed an interest in minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques and image guided surgery of the spine and brain. He is passioned about modern neurosurgical technology, neuronavigation, robotics, intraoperative imaging.
He has a special interest in the treatment of spinal cord tumours.
Mr Ivanov is passionate about teaching; he lectures and demonstrates on surgical workshops nationally and internationally. He is involved in examination of medical students and neurosurgical trainees at different levels: local (Sheffield University), UK - National selection exams and European level - he is teaching at the EANS Spinal Course and since 2017 he is examiner for Oral EANS exams. Since 2023 he is Chair of the Examination Committee of the EANS.
His clinical interests inlcude a wide range of spinal conditions including degenerative, trauma, spinal stabilisation and artificial disc technology, minimally invasive spine surgery and spinal tumours.

She completed her residency in neurology followed by neuro-oncology fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago. Her specialty areas include primary and secondary brain and spinal cord neoplasms, as well as the neurologic complications of systemic malignancies. Dr. Misha Pless is currently Professor of Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic College of medicine and Science. After completing a B.A.S at Stanford University, Dr. Pless was a Woodruff Scholar at Emory University School of Medicine, where he received his MD. Dr. Pless completed a medical internship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and a neurology residency at the Harvard-Longwood Neurology Training Program of Boston. He subsequently joined Dr. Simmons Lessell in specialty training in neuro-ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston. Before joining the University of Pittsburgh, he served as full-time faculty at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. At the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Dr. Pless was the director of the neuro-ophthalmology division; he led a busy neuro-ophthalmology unit and took part in multicenter trials studying neuroprotection, optic nerve inflammation and ischemia. He was formally an Associate Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh. Subsequently Dr. Pless returned to Boston and at Massachusetts General Hospital Dr. Pless served as a neuro-ophthalmologist working on optic nerve function, and for a decade led 3 divisions, Neuro-ophthalmology, Multiple Sclerosis and General Neurology.
In addition Dr. Pless was an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. During the last 8 years he relocated to Switzerland where he served as neuro-ophthalmologist and neuro-immunologist, specializing in multiple sclerosis and uncommon autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system at the Hospital of the Canton of Lucerne, in Lucerne, Switzerland. Dr. Pless is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and is a board-certified member of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has published works on subjects relating to multiple sclerosis and neuro-ophthalmology.

Dana M. Harris, M.D., is an assistant professor in the College of Medicine at Mayo Clinic. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Her interests are in preventive medicine, mechanisms of disease and translation of science to practice. She has several publications and is currently enrolled in the Mayo Graduate School Immunology Master’s Program. She finds great value in the exchange of medical information and is an active lecturer in international medical conferences. Dr. Harris served on the Infection Prevention Committee and as the physician leader of the COVID Community Internal Medicine Clinic. She has found time from her busy practice to give back to the community. In 2019 she received the Community Service Award from Mayo Clinic Florida.
Dr. Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She practiced retail and hospital pharmacy at Emory University. She received her MD degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. She completed her internal medicine residency at Mayo Clinic Florida and a specialty in infectious disease. She has been with Mayo Clinic Florida since 2004, except for two years when she worked at St Vincent’s in Jacksonville. Dr. Harris and her husband have two sons. She believes that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and she enjoys healthy living and regular exercise in the form of swimming and walking. Her favorite hobby is reading.

The research interests of Roxana S. Dronca, M.D., are in the field of tumor immunology, with a particular interest in malignant melanoma and genitourinary malignancies. Her goal is to understand the interaction of immune and endocrine systems in modulating the anti-tumor immune response, study the dynamics and mechanisms of systemic immune regulation in cancer, and develop innovative approaches to cancer therapy utilizing chemotherapy and immunotherapy agents administered in an individualized fashion — synchronized to patient-specific endogenous anti-tumor immune dynamics.
Dr. Dronca's additional research focus is to study the signaling pathway of B7-H1/PD-1 and its role in impaired host immunity in melanoma patients. For this project, Dr. Dronca is closely collaborating with other Mayo Clinic researchers to identify the mechanisms of clinical activity and resistance of these novel immunotherapeutic agents, and to develop and validate immunological biomarkers that could predict response to anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapies and guide individualized treatment administration.

He specializes in minimally invasive surgery of the pituitary gland and surgery of cranial base and brain tumors. He has a unique experience in the country in endoscopic transnasal surgery of tumors of the skull base and pituitary region (several hundred operations). He performs transnasal surgeries of pituitary tumors, suprasellar tumors (including meningiomas, chordomas, craniopharyngiomas and others) and brain tumors. In addition, he deals with classical oncological neurosurgery, spine and spinal cord surgery.
He currently works at the Nervous System Cancer Clinic of the Oncology Center in Warsaw. He gained his knowledge and past during numerous training internships in leading neurosurgery hospitals in the USA and Europe.

Ovidiu Nicolae Palea was born in Blaj, a small town in the heart of Transylvania, and was raised in Bucharest, Romania.
He graduated from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 1989 and continued on graduating from his residency program in Anesthesiology at George Washington University Hospital, Washington DC, USA in 2003.
After graduating from an Intensive Care fellowship from the same University Hospital a year later, he continued to work at Washington University Hospital until the end of 2007 when he returned to Romania.
He started his pain management practice in 2011, being the first Romanian to be accredited in Pain Management by the World Institute of Pain in august 2017.
In 2018, his practice became the only Medical training facility in Eastern and Central Europe to be approved as a training facility by the European Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy.
He has extensive expertise in spine endoscopy, holds regular workshops in a wide variety of minimal invasive pain management procedures across the world, and has been included in the list of approved examiners by the World Institute of Pain.

Este absolvent al Universității de Medicină și Farmacie „Iuliu Hațieganu” Cluj Napoca, iar ca studii postuniversitare menționăm o diplomă de master în domeniul de management sanitar și un doctorat în Științe Medicale.
Deține o pregătire de bază în bune practici pentru monitor în studii clinice și a participat la multiple cursuri de formare, specializându-se în psihoterapie pozitivă și training autogen ca psihoterapeut.
În domeniul sănătății mintale, a fost implicat în diverse proiecte de voluntariat atât în comunitate, cât și în domeniul medical. În cadrul Asociației Române de Psihiatrie și Psihoterapie își desfășoară activitatea ca președinte elect și este membru al Alianței Prevenirii Suicidului din România,
A înființat și coordonează Colectivul de cercetare științifică în neuroștiințe al Spitalului Clinic de Psihiatrie "Dr. Gheorghe Preda" Sibiu.
